The Arctic Water

Documentation of In Situ Performance, High-Arctic Pack-ice

The Arctic Water is a 15-minute performance of heavy crying on the floating Arctic sea ice. In the performance, an unknown character in a red dress made from recycled clothing collected in Paris, which is “the capital of the nineteenth Century” as Walter Benjamin called it. The character sobs as she drinks pure seawater from the Arctic Ocean. Flowing warm tears on a cold face and drinking arctic seawater on a floating iceberg creates a quasi-ritual.
